Professor Michaela Diamant sadly passed away on 9th April 2014 at the age of 51 years.

Michaela Diamant is Professor of Diabetology and Director of the Diabetes Center, VU University Medical Center (VUMC), Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In addition to her work as a clinical diabetologist, she supervises multiple research projects, focusing on the pathogenesis and mechanisms of type 2 diabetes and its complications, as well as studies addressing mechanisms of novel therapies, such as incretin-based treatments. Professor Diamant is the author or co-author of 250 original research papers, reviews, chapters and patents. She served as a member of the Scientific Board of the Dutch Diabetes Research Foundation, and is currently a core member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Diabetes and Endocrinology (CHMP/European Medicines Agency), and member of the EASD-ADA writing group for type 2 diabetes guidelines. She is past chair of the Board of the Dutch Association for Diabetes Research, former member of the Expert Advisory Board for the DIAMAP/EURADIA initiative and served on the editorial board of Diabetologia as well as the EASD 2010 and 2014 programme committee. She is a member of the editorial boards of Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Cardiovascular Diabetology and Clinical Medicine: Endocrinology and Diabetes. Recently, she was nominated Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, UK.
